Doylestown Hospital offers a Comprehensive Stroke/Brain Injury Program to individuals 14 years of age and older who have suffered a stroke, traumatic head injury or have other neurological disorders. Our structured program is based on an interdisciplinary team approach to improve physical, speech/communication, cognitive and memory skills to enable more independent living. Our rehab team consists of physical therapists, occupational therapists, a speech/swallowing therapist as well as a rehab nurse and social worker.
Comprehensive Stroke/Brain Injury rehabilitation may include:
- REO GO: a robot-assisted treatment using neuromuscular retraining to promote greater arm function.
- Alternate Communication: training in the use of speech generating devices to improve non-verbal communication.
- VitalStim Swallow Therapy: uses electrical stimulation to activate the muscles used in swallowing.
- Return-to-Driving Assessment: a program in cooperation with Moss Rehab, to provide information on visual scanning, distance vision, brake reaction time as well as on-the-road testing to ensure a safe return to driving.
