February 2012 Associate of the Month
Tina Effrig
Patient Access Specialist

Tina Effrig was born in Abington and grew up in the Chalfont and Warrington areas. She graduated from Central Bucks East High School and worked for several years at doctors' offices and for an answering service. She originally had the goal of becoming a nurse, and has always enjoyed being in a medical environment. Tina joined Doylestown Hospital 12 years ago in Outpatient Registration before being promoted to her current position as Patient Access Specialist with the Patient Access department.

Tina's duties include managing the ER registration team and Admissions department schedules and staffing, making sure there is adequate staff in all areas. When needed, Tina jumps in and registers patients in the ER.

Tina monitors patient accounts, reviewing all Associates' registration work and measuring against quality outcomes. Tina is also the staff educator for the Patient Access department and is responsible for the orientation and training of new Associates.

All registration in the ER is done electronically at the patient's bedside. About 120 patients are seen each day in the ER, and there are always at least four registrars in the ER.

Tina enjoys the flexibility of her job and working with the clinical staff. "I like the people I work with and the patient contact," she says. "It's a great place to work and we all work well together." Even though registration procedures are basically the same for each patient, Tina enjoys the fact that each patient is different and each day is different. She describes herself as an outgoing people person and says she is very enthusiastic about what she does.

According to Kathy Murphy, Patient Access Manager: "Tina does an incredible job managing the complexities of the department schedule and works hard to meet everyone's needs. Tina's strengths are her positive and energetic demeanor and ability to work well with and mentor other Associates. Tina is approachable and makes everyone feel welcome and appreciated. Tina takes excellent care of our patients, she is thorough and professional in her interactions with patients and she is able to make them feel at ease during a difficult time. I believe Tina best represents the values of Service and Respect as described above."

Tina lives in Chalfont. She and her husband, Matt, have a son, Matt, Jr., 19, and a daughter, Megan, 15. Tina enjoys reading, going to the gym and shopping.

Congratulations to an exceptional Associate!
