June 2012 Associate of the Month
Kathy Michitsch was born in Abington and grew up in Warrington. She graduated from CB West High School. She started working at Doylestown Hospital just two weeks after graduation in 1979. She started out as a nurse's aid and worked in that job for about six years. Then she joined Rehab as a physical therapy aid and stayed with that department for 19 years. After a brief stint in GI, Kathy transitioned to Accounting in 2006. Kathy says she has always loved helping people, and decided the change from patient care to Accounting would be a welcome challenge that would allow her to expand her horizons.
Kathy is the Payroll Processing Coordinator. She processes payroll for about 2,000 Associates. She oversees the Kronos system, handles payroll deductions and any issues with paychecks. She creates weekly reports and works closely with Human Resources. She is excited about the department's latest project, going paperless for direct deposits. "I absolutely love my job," says Kathy. "The people here and the whole hospital are fabulous. I can't imagine working anywhere else." She truly enjoys helping people and teaching others, as well as learning new things herself. Kathy is also a member of the hospital's First Response Team.
Director of Financial Accounting Michele Florkowski says: "Kathy truly loves her job. She is very compassionate towards others and everyone loves her. She is very organized and has a great attitude. She always takes whatever time is needed to accomplish her duties. Kathy is very valuable to our department. She is a great resource and is dedicated to helping others. Kathy is always willing to learn new things. She is always smiling. She constantly is thinking of ways to make the department more efficient and effective in her day-to-day duties. She is always the first to volunteer for any project or event, a real team player. We are the fortunate ones to have Kathy in our department and have her as a member of the Finance Team."
Chief Accounting Officer Betsy Seeber adds: "Kathy embodies a spirit of 'Welcome'. Her smile and demeanor immediately put associates at ease in getting their payroll questions addressed. She ensures privacy for these discussions, and guards their confidential information with great care.
Kathy consistently "has the time" to pause from a task and respond with full attention when someone needs assistance; she often attends staff meetings during night shift. She serves as a member of the First Response Team for Environmental Emergencies, and participates in regular Haz-Mat Training with enthusiasm, even if it means extra hours. She is committed to process improvement, continuously implementing ideas for reducing paper and increasing efficiency.
Kathy inspires those around her to have a great time at work. Every day, she thanks her co-workers and managers for doing a great job. No one can resist her sense of humor -- a chat with Kathy always adds a chuckle to your day."
Kathy and her husband, Chip, live in Hatboro. Their son, Walter, is a student at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown. Kathy enjoys going to the gym (Cornerstone in Warrington) with Chip. She also likes swimming, sewing and quilting. She enjoys the shore and the mountains and loves spending time with family.
Congratulations to an exceptional Associate!
