Dr. Mary Ellen Pelletier is a hospitalist who is board certified in internal medicine, the specialty that focuses on adult medical care. Dr. Pelletier was in private practice before joining Doylestown Hospital as a hospitalist. Hospitalists focus their care on inpatients, treating a wide spectrum of illnesses, including critical patients in the Intensive Care setting.
Dr. Pelletier has been a hospitalist at Doylestown Hospital since 2005. She holds the position of Physician Informaticist, focusing on helping to implement the electronic medical record. She has served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine. She is committed to patient safety and participates in several quality and safety committees at the hospital.
Dr. Pelletier holds professional membership in the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society and Bucks County Physician Hospital Alliance.
After graduating from Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Dr. Pelletier worked at the University of Virginia Hospital. She was the safety officer of the chemistry lab for three years prior to becoming a physician. She explains why she went back to school: "I was more interested in what was happening with the patients than I was reporting lab values. My desire to improve the health of my patients was the driving factor to my returning to school to study medicine."
