Professional Profile Dr. Peter Urffer is a hospitalist who is board certified in internal medicine. Prior to joining Doylestown Hospital as a hospitalist in 2005, Dr. Urffer was a staff physician at the Denver VA Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente of Colorado. He also was a clinical instructor of medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
In addition to patient care, many hospitalists are involved in efforts to improve the quality of care delivered in the hospital. During his time at Doylestown Hospital, Dr. Urffer has demonstrated his commitment to quality and patient safety by serving on numerous committees including: Critical Care; Pharmacy and Therapeutics; Stroke; Sepsis, and Continuing Medical Education (CME).
Dr. Urffer is a member of the Society of Hospital Medicine, the nation's largest and only medical society devoted entirely to hospitalists and hospital medicine. According to the Society of Hospital Medicine, there are currently more than 30,000 hospitalists practicing in more than 3,300 hospitals representing 80% of hospitals with more than 200 beds. Dr. Urffer has earned further recognition in his specialty through the Society's Fellow of Hospital Medicine (FHM) program, which requires specialized expertise and experience in hospital medicine. He was part of the program's inaugural class in 2009. Currently he serves on the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Society of Hospital Medicine.
Personal Profile Dr. Urffer grew up in the suburban Philadelphia area and graduated from Hatboro-Horsham High School. He received a BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania before beginning his medical education in Pittsburgh.
Dr. Urffer continues to be involved in a number of athletic organizations in the local community.
