September 2012

September 2012 Associate of the Month
Jennifer Bradley
MIS

Jennifer Bradley was born at Doylestown Hospital and grew up in Doylestown. She graduated from CB West High School and earned her Nursing degree from Bloomsburg University. Jennifer started as a nurse extern at Doylestown Hospital during her senior year of college. After graduating, she joined the hospital as a nurse on the 4th floor and worked there for four years. About two and a half years ago, she transitioned to MIS to become a Clinical Systems Analyst.

Jennifer's job was created when the hospital started rolling out CPOE (Computerized Provider Order Entry) a few years ago. The first CPOE order was made on Sept. 15, 2009 by a single physician. Every specialty and each physician required different templates and training. Order sets were redesigned and as more and more physicians used CPOE, there were revisions and improvements to the work flow. Back in June, the hospital marked an important milestone, as electronic medical records were in use by all Doylestown Hospital physicians treating inpatients.

Relying on her nursing background, Jennifer supports clinical systems throughout the hospital. She assists physicians, nurses and therapists with documentation issues, orders and progress notes. Her role includes building the screens that clinical personnel use in Meditech. While she misses the hands-on aspect of patient care, Jennifer says she is glad that she gets to pull from her clinical background in her current position. The fact that she was familiar with the documentation systems here helped Jennifer make the transition to MIS. "I like being the voice of reason for nursing," she says. "I couldn't do this job without being a nurse."

"I love working here," Jennifer adds, describing her department, located in the basement of the hospital, as a "tight-knit" group. "It's like a little family down here," she says.

Director of Applications Lynn Miller, RN, BSN says, "Jen supports multiple departments of the hospital and works well with all areas to listen to their needs and help find resolutions to their issues and concerns. She is caring and supportive to everyone around her. She always steps up to help when someone needs something. Jen is team player. She works with everyone to get the job done -- no matter how big or small that job may be. She is knowledgeable, professional and great with people."

Chief Information Officer Rick Lang, Ed.D, PMP, FHIMSS adds: "It has been said that a 'Good Nurse' is a knowledgeable professional, good at time management, and great with people. These skills enable them to coordinate and provide care delivery to ensure the best possible outcome for each patient. Nurses are good team players as well as competent leaders with pleasant dispositions. Lucky for MIS, these are all of the same skill sets that make a great IT (Information Technology) professional. So in my experience, nurses make outstanding IT pros. Jen is the quintessential example of how a nurse can excel in IT. Making IT systems work for patient care providers - making care safer and more efficient."

Jennifer and her husband, Jesse, were married in November. They live in Ivyland next door to her brother and sister-in-law and their five young children, which keeps Jennifer busy as an aunt. She also enjoys reading, going to the beach and spending time with friends.

Congratulations to an exceptional Associate!
