At Doylestown Hospital, we take a team approach to treating breast cancer that relies upon the expertise of a variety of physicians to ensure the best accurate diagnosis and most appropriate treatment. While the initial diagnostic work might be done by a radiologist, each patient's treatment is unique andmay involve a range of specialists, including surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists, pathologists and plastic-reconstructive surgeons. Doylestown Hospital offers access to all of these board-certified specialists.
The Women's Diagnostic Centers of Doylestown Hospital specializes in the earliest possible detection of breast disease. Women may choose to come to Doylestown Hospital or the Health & Wellness Center in Warrington for their mammograms. Our centers use only the latest digital technology enhanced by computer-aided detection (CAD) software. The CAD system acts like a second set of eyes and tags potential abnormalities for the radiologist reading the digital image.
The Cancer Institute's Breast Care Coordinator is there from the beginning to help women with a positive diagnosis navigate the unfamiliar terrain of selecting and managing their treatment options. In addition, the Breast Cancer Coordinator oversees the Cancer Risk Evaluation Program (CREP), specifically designed for women who want information about their personal risk for breast and ovarian cancer. This comprehensive program is a collaborative effort of Doylestown Hospital and the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania.
Recently, Doylestown Hospital became the first Bucks County-based facility to earn the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) accreditation. NAPBC-accreditation is granted only to those centers that have voluntarily committed to comply with the highest NAPBC standards. In addition, The Women's Diagnostic Center was awarded the designation of Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
