Brett Harrison, MD Medical School: University of Rochester Residency: Pennsylvania Hospital
Professional Profile
Dr. Brett Harrison specializes in general surgery with a particular interest in the management and treatment of breast cancer. He earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester and completed his residency at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. He is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Harrison became interested in surgery because of the opportunity to treat and cure a variety of diseases and problems. Ever since his childhood, he has been mechanically inclined, building go karts and repairing bicycles and automobiles. He has a gift for "figuring out how things work" and a passion for learning the mechanics of things. Indeed, prior to studying medicine Dr. Harrison earned a Master of Science degree in civil engineering from M.I.T. He views the ability to "repair" the human body as an extension of the skills that date back to his youth.
The trend in surgery has been towards less invasive procedures with smaller incicisions, says Dr. Harrison, who performs procedures today that did not exist when he trained in the 1980s. The field of surgery is constantly changing, and he keeps up to date on new and proven procedures. Personal Profile
When it comes to patient philosophy, Dr. Harrison feels it is important to treat patients the same way he would want to be treated if he were the patient. It's a theme he sees evidenced at Doylestown Hospital, where all the staff and volunteers treat patients as they would want to be treated themselves. The physicians, nurses and other staff who work at Doylestown Hospital live in this community and use the hospital for the healthcare needs of themselves and their families. Dr. Harrison enjoys seeing his patients out and about in the community.
Dr. Harrison is a sports fan and especially follows the Phillies, Eagles and Flyers.
