Independence Blue Cross of southeastern Pennsylvania has designated Doylestown Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement(SM).
The Blue Distinction designation is awarded by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality health care in the areas of bariatric surgery, cardiac care, complex and rare cancers, knee and hip replacement, spine surgery and transplants. The program is part of The Blues(R) efforts to collaborate with physicians and medical facilities to improve the overall quality and safety of specialty care. More information on selection criteria is available on www.bcbs.com.
In November of 2010, the Orthopedic Institute received the Joint Commission Disease Specific Certification in Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery.
In order to earn this distinction of honor, the Orthopedic Institute underwent an extensive 2 day on-site evaluation by a Joint Commission surveyor. The survey included an intensive review of the program's processes, improvement measures, staff competency and coordination of care. The Orthopedic Institute met or exceeded all standards, which in turn have resulted in positive outcomes for our joint replacement patients. As part of criteria of certification, the Institute is required to submit data to the Joint Commission on a regular basis to ensure compliance.
