Newborn Nursery/NICU

Newborn Nursery

Our experienced staff of pediatricians, family practice physicians, and newborn nurses provide inpatient newborn care. You and your baby will normally stay in the Birthing Center for 48 hours. We encourage mothers to "room in" with their newborns. Rooming in allows for more time to bond and get to know your baby.

Level II: Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

The NICU offers level 2 neonatal intensive care for infants who require additional care due to illness or prematurity. Through our affiliation with neonatalogists from the premier pediatric speciality hospital in the Delaware Valley - Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) - Doylestown Hospital now offers round-the-clock coverage by CHOP neonatologists.  Neonatal intensive care services are available for newborns born as early as 28 weeks gestation, or with serious medical problems.

The NICU staff has extensive experience in dealing with premature or sick newborns. Whatever condition necessitates a baby's admission to the NICU, each baby receives individualized care.

On average, babies admitted to the special care nursery spend eight days in this intensive environment; however, depending on the baby's size and medical condition, the stay could be as short as one day or as long as a month. One of the most important jobs of the neonatal staff is to make sure parents understand how to care for their special infants once they are discharged.
