Gregory G. Gallant, MD
Medical School:  University of Connecticut
Residency:  University of Connecticut
Health Center
Fellowship:  Hospital of the University of
Pennsylvania

Professional Profile

Dr. Gregory Gallant is a graduate of the University of Connecticut Medical School. He became interested in orthopedics during his first year of medical school. He felt an affinity with the surgeons who taught the class, which led him to focus his career on orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Gallant graduated from the University of Connecticut Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program. He completed a fellowship in hand surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a specialist in the hand and upper extremity, or in other words, from fingertips to the shoulder. He is fascinated by the anatomy and function of this area of the body and all its parts-hand, wrist, forearm, elbow and shoulder.

Dr. Gallant is highly skilled in arthroscopic surgery. In this minimally-invasive surgical procedure, an examination and treatment of the damage to a joint is done using an arthroscope. An arthroscope is a thin flexible fiberoptic scope inserted into the joint through a small incision to perform diagnostic and treatment procedures or repairs. The use of tiny incisions reduces recovery time and minimalizes damage to connective tissue. An expert in rotator cuff tears and ligament tears of the shoulder, Dr. Gallant can perform a great number of procedures with the arthroscope. He also specializes in arthroscopic procedures that repair ligament injuries of the wrist.

Dr. Gallant is past president of the Bucks County Medical Society and currently serves as treasurer of the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society. He will serve as president of the Doylestown Hospital Medical Staff from June 2009 to June 2011. He also serves on the Pennsylvania Medical Society's Interspecialty Board as the board's sole representative for orthopedic surgeons in the state.

Dr. Gallant provides on-call coverage 24/7 for hand and upper extremity care for emergency patients at Doylestown Hospital. "The reason I do this is I feel this is my obligation the community in which I live," explains Dr. Gallant. "I have the knowledge and expertise to do this, and I feel I should do this because it is the best way I can help."

Personal Profile

Apart from using the latest technology to assist his patients, Dr. Gallant likes to add a "personal touch" to the way he practices by treating his patients like he would members of his own family. "I care very deeply about my patients," he says. "I really think their problems through and spend a lot of time when I am away from them thinking about their problems."

This philosophy of patient care suits the community setting of Doylestown Hospital. Dr. Gallant resides in the local area and enjoys getting to know his patients. "I do like the fact that it is a smaller hospital in a community rather than a very large hospital in a major city," says Dr. Gallant. "For me, this is really where I would like to practice."

Dr. Gallant enjoys spending time with his family in various activities throughout the community and at home. He is very interested in physical fitness, exercising at least one hour daily.
