Professional Profile 

Dr. Douglas Boylan is board certified in orthopedic surgery and specializes in sports medicine injuries of the shoulder and knee. He graduated with a medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed his internship and orthopedic surgery residency at the Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. After a successful fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Utah, Dr. Boylan joined Doylestown Orthopaedic Specialists in 1999. 

During the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, Dr. Boylan cared for Olympic athletes as an orthopedic volunteer. He has conducted research on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and presented at professional conferences on this subject. Dr. Boylan has conducted numerous community lectures on treatments for knees and shoulders, as well as the prevention and treatment of sports-related injuries.

Dr. Boylan holds professional membership in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the Bucks County Medical Society.


Personal Profile 

Dr. Boylan's approach to patient care is to try the simple treatment options first if possible. Of course every patient is different, and Dr. Boylan has more than a decade of experience in orthopedics to tailor treatment to each patient. As a staff physician at Doylestown Hospital, Dr. Boylan appreciates the advantages of the community hospital setting. "Patients receive excellent care in a personalized environment close to home," he says. Dr. Boylan's patients have access to all the latest technology and advances with arthroscopic surgery for shoulders and knees as well as joint replacement and fracture care to recover from injuries. 

Dr. Boylan has served as a board member of the Doylestown YMCA. He is a team physician for the Central Bucks School District and enjoys community involvement in local high school and area sporting events.
