 In 1998, as Doylestown Hospital celebrated its 75th anniversary, administrators and board members envisioned the transformation of our 56 acre campus into an "Arboretum Woven into a Healing Environment." Landscape architects Carter van Dyke Associates designed an Arboretum plan with seven different gardens that patients, staff and visitors may enjoy throughout the seasons.
The fragrance of lilacs, the graceful beauty of azaleas in bloom, and the call of wild birds enliven our surroundings, bringing nature a little closer to us. The Arboretum is a healing environment for mind, body and spirit.
ARBORETUM GIVING OPPORTUNITIES
All of the gardens have been funded and are maintained through donations. We welcome financial support from individuals, community businesses, clubs and organizations to grow the Arboretum.
Contributions are welcome at all levels. Donating a memorial garden, contributing to the purchase of plants, shrubs, trees, sculpture and benches are all ways to be a part of the Arboretum.
A Donor Walkway is located outside the Hospital's Main Lobby. Donations of $100.00 - $2,499.00 are acknowledged with brick pavers engraved with wording of your choice.

DANCING CRANES by sculptor Greg Leavitt
This delightful sculpture, installed in Spring 2009, was designed to inspire patients and all who come to Doylestown Hospital, especially those who are receiving treatment in the Cancer Institute which overlooks the pond. In Asian cultures cranes are a symbol of longevity. Greg Leavitt's cranes are dancing which evokes a feeling of energy and joy.

ARBORETUM GARDENS
AZALEA AMBLE
A colorful quiet space filled with azaleas, rhododendrons, and perennials will invite you to walk through this garden or sit, relax and enjoy the surroundings.
WETLAND GARDEN & BIRD WATCHING AREA
Cross the bridge* to the natural wetland garden with a large birdblind* and bench. Enjoy the variety of birds and wetland plantings.
*Installed by two local Boy Scouts for their Eagle projects.
MEDICINAL TRAIL*
Completed in June 2002. In typical arboretum fashion, plants that are located along the trail are labeled to identify the species and include information on their medicinal value and history.

WOODLAND GARDEN & CHILDREN'S AREA
Woodland plants, trees and shrubs surround "Curious George" (fiberglass mule) and "First Lesson" bronze sculpture. Shade tolerant bulbs and perennials provide seasonal color.
A nature cabin, constructed at handicap height includes binoculars and bench and is located at the pond's edge, adjacent to this garden.
LILAC GARDEN
This space is stunning focal point from many angles, filled with lilacs, viburnums and other scented flowering plants.
WILDFLOWER WALK
This area is abundant with color throughout the summer and can be seen while driving, using the bike/hike trail or viewed from the surrounding parking lots.
GIFT OF FLOWERS
All areas, including parking islands, existing gardens and new gardens slated for installation, will receive the gift of flowers based on the donation material and appropriate location.
WINTER GARDEN
This area will contain Hollies and Witchhazel to enjoy during colder seasons, and early blooming bulbs to delight in during the spring.
