Dr. Vikoren specializes in hip and knee replacements as well as the repair of complex fractures, particularly around joint replacements.  He earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School and completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. He successfully completed a prestigious fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Hip and Knee Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston.

While at medical school, Dr. Vikoren was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and received the University of Pittsburgh Medical School Alumni Association Research Scholarship. He has participated in a variety of research projects and presented on his findings. He has authored several articles for professional publications.

Dr. Vikoren became interested in orthopedics while studying Physics at Dartmouth College. Orthopedics allows him to combine his mechanical interests with his desire to positively impact people's lives. He is particularly interested in the science behind joint replacements and the improvements in both implant technology and surgical techniques. At the same time, he is cautious not to embrace new technologies without having seen proven results.

Personal Profile

Patient care for Dr. Vikoren involves getting to know each patient and speaking honestly about treatment options. "Learning about what makes each person 'tick' helps me understand what they're going through with whatever is affecting them, and how I can best help them," he says.

Dr. Vikoren appreciates Doylestown Hospital's comprehensive approach to patient care. "What makes Doylestown unique is the collaborative effort behind the care of each patient," he explains. This team approach includes the nurses, a patient's local medical doctor or hospitalist, joint replacement counselors, rehabilitation medicine physicians and therapists.

Dr. Vikoren has a strong "hometown connection." He was born in Doylestown Hospital and raised in the Doylestown area.  Many local residents will also recognize the family name as his mother practiced OB/GYN at Doylestown Hospital for some 30 years. Dr. Vikoren's hobbies include woodworking, downhill skiing, sailing and running. He completed the Columbus (Ohio) Marathon in 1999.
