Congratulations on expecting a child. We recommend that you choose a pediatrician or a physician specializing in family practice medicine, prior to the birth of your child. The physician that you select will help advise you on the care of your child, routine check-ups, and should your child become ill.
Pediatrics
Pediatrics is a part of medicine that focuses on the care of infants, children and adolescents. Pediatrics differs from adult medicine in many respects. An infant has a substantially different physiology than that of an adult. Pediatricians advice about common children's health issues, immunizations, growth & development, infections, nutrition, safety, etc. Pediatricians see children from age from birth through adolescence.
Family Practice
A family physician is board-certified in family medicine. Training is focused on treating an individual throughout his or her life and family practice physicians see patients of all ages. Family practice physicians will see patients with any medical problem, but are experts in common problems. Many family practice physicians also have expertise in and internal medicine, geriatrics, adolescent medicine, sports medicine, obstetrics, research, and preventative medicine. |
