DH NAMED TO BECKER'S HOSPITAL REVIEW'S 100 HOSPITALS WITH GREAT HEART PROGRAMS
01/14/2013
Doylestown Hospital has been named to Becker's Hospital Review’s list of "100 Hospitals with Great Heart Programs," which recognizes outstanding hospitals for heart care in the United States. Doylestown Hospital is the only hospital in Bucks County to garner recognition on this annual list.

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. The following 100 hospitals have made strides to combat this statistic through innovative clinical research, high-quality care and state-of-the-art treatments. These hospitals have also extended their services beyond the confines of their facilities by educating their local communities about heart health, helping sharpen our country's focus on preventive care and population health.

According to electrophysiologist John Harding, MD, with The Richard A. Reif Heart Institute of Doylestown Hospital, what sets Doylestown apart--and keeps it in the company of nationally-known institutions on the list--is teamwork. “We have teamwork from top to bottom and an emphasis on coordination of care,” he says. “At the end of the day, we discuss and plan care from the moment the patient is hitting the door to the moment the patients leaves the hospital and beyond, with a coordinated outpatient effort.” Dr. Harding also notes the coordination with experienced specialists that further enhances the quality of patient care. “We have a very strong collaboration with a large variety of specialists. You add all of those in addition to the spectrum of cardiac care and you get an excellent patient experience.”

The name “Richard A. Reif Heart Institute of Doylestown Hospital” honors the legacy of long-time Doylestown Hospital President and CEO Richard Reif. The Institute was renamed in his honor in January 2013, the final month of Reif’s tenure before his official retirement. Reif became Chief Executive Officer of Doylestown Hospital in June 1989. Under his leadership, the hospital and its staff have received special recognition from a variety of organizations related to patient care and the management of the hospital and its nationally recognized cardiac program.

The following 100 hospitals were selected based on clinical accolades, recognition for quality care and contributions to the fields of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery. These hospitals have been set apart for excellence in heart care and research by prominent and reputable healthcare sources and associations, including U.S. News & World Report, HealthGrades, Thomson Reuters and the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Recognized hospitals are free to note their inclusion through marketing materials, website promotion, press releases and other media materials without paying a fee.

Note: This list is not a ranking. Hospitals cannot pay to be included on Becker's lists, and fees are never involved. Content is not intended to substitute for professional medical advice.
